A gathering place for the creativity of artists from around the globe. This week, we feature Lourenço Providência, a designer for Paper Collective—the poster brand hailing from Copenhagen.


A unique visual language woven from diverse roots


Lourenço Providência is a Portugal-based artist and illustrator. His work is shaped by layers of diverse cultural backgrounds that, at first glance, might seem to be in conflict with one another.



His unique style was forged by combining the dynamic energy of "skate culture"—which lies at the very roots of his work—and the free spirit of "street art" found on urban walls, with the serene, sculptural beauty of Japanese "minimalism."


The worlds he depicts are rooted in the casual, everyday moments right beside us, yet they exude a strange, poetic air of surrealism.


Bold, powerful lines, carefully calculated colors, and daringly stylized forms intertwine in complex ways, inviting the viewer into a pleasing visual experience that liberates them from the constraints of reality.



Traditional craftsmanship brought to life in a Copenhagen workshop


This limited-edition collection is not merely a product of digital printing. Each piece is meticulously hand-printed using the silk-screen technique by skilled artisans in a Copenhagen studio.


Silk-screening is a form of printmaking that requires a labor-intensive process of layering stencils for each individual color. In today’s digital-dominated world, we deliberately choose this analog method for the sake of the rich, tangible quality—the "materiality"—it delivers.



Premium Material Quality: The foundation is a carefully selected, richly textured half-cotton paper. Ink penetrates deep into the paper fibers, creating the characteristic thickness of screen-printing ink alongside a soft, matte finish.


Vivid Color Blocks: Artisans mix the ink according to the day's temperature and humidity, achieving colors that are both fresh and deep. The interplay of intricate lines and bold planes of color breathes life into Lourenço’s graphics.
