[Elevating Sophisticated Contract Spaces with COOEE Design – Vol. 3]
Creating a "First Step" That Leaves a Lasting Impression on Guests: Establishing Focal Points in Hotel Lounges and Commercial Facilities
In "contract spaces"—such as offices, hotels, and commercial facilities—if art serves as a "language" that conveys a brand's concept, then decorative objects act as elements that regulate the space's "breathing."
This article launches a series featuring COOEE Design, an interior brand from Sweden. We explore how their silky textures and sculptural forms bring a sense of serenity and sophistication to modern professional environments.

The experience of a hotel stay or a visit to a retail store begins with the "surprise" felt the moment the door opens. It is no exaggeration to say that the first impression a guest forms upon entering the space defines the brand's character.
In this third installment of the series, we focus on how to create a "focal point" within hospitality venues and commercial spaces.
We explore techniques for creating an evocative atmosphere that stirs guests' emotions, all while harmonizing with the scale of the space through the use of COOEE Design products.

Creating a "Purposeful Gaze": The Logic of Focal Points
In expansive hotel entrances or commercial exhibition areas, simply placing objects in the space fails to anchor the guest's gaze or leave a lasting impression.
To lend a sense of distinction to a space, it is essential to create a "focal point" that intentionally guides the guest's line of sight.
Thanks to their sculptural beauty, COOEE Design pieces naturally draw the eye. However, in contract spaces, the key lies not merely in placement, but in positioning the items so they fulfill a specific role.
The secret to effective styling here is selecting the right size—ensuring the piece holds its own against the scale of the space without being overpowering—and arranging items in thoughtful groupings.

Hotel Reception: Creating an "Overwhelmingly Extraordinary Experience" with a Massive Base Structure
The reception counter is the first point of contact for guests and serves as the "face" of the hotel. It is essential to conceal the signs of daily administrative tasks and create an atmosphere that feels distinct from the everyday.

Creating a sense of scale with a large base.
In the lobby, we intentionally place large vases—ranging from 20 to 30 cm in size—either individually or in pairs of varying heights. While small decorative items would be overwhelmed by the scale of the space, the striking forms of COOEE vases command attention, serving as a bold focal point even in a spacious lobby.

Construction of a barrier using "Trays"
A cluttered counter—strewn with various items and documents—can ruin a luxurious atmosphere. Instead, use the COOEE "Tray" as a foundation for arranging pieces like vases or candle holders.
By using a tray to define a specific area, you eliminate a sense of disarray and create the refined, polished look of a professional display.

Apparel and Commercial Facilities: The Non-Reflective "Quiet Protagonist"
In stores and showrooms, the stars of the show are undoubtedly the products on display—whether clothing, jewelry, or other goods. Perhaps the biggest mistake in display design here is allowing lighting to reflect off a vase, thereby detracting from the products' own brilliance.
Harmony Created by "Non-Glare"
The signature "silky matte" finish of COOEE Design products gently absorbs the light from spotlights. This prevents any distracting glare from reflections—even when placed behind the product itself—allowing it to serve as a "quiet protagonist" that simply enhances the item on display.

Color design that reinforces the worldview.
Unify the base with a nuanced color that matches the brand concept (for example, Mud or Wool for a luxurious feel, or White for a clean impression), and arrange the different sizes like a gradation. This has the effect of preventing the bases from fighting with each other and enhancing the sophisticated worldview of the entire shop.

Embrace the season with the versatility of nuanced colors.
In hospitality spaces, updating displays to reflect the changing seasons is a crucial task. However, large-scale redecorating is both costly and labor-intensive. COOEE products offer a highly flexible solution to this challenge.

Expressing the seasons through the layering of colors.
There is no need to replace the vase itself with the changing seasons; COOEE’s nuanced colors are designed to harmonize with any palette.
For instance, you might choose a white or sand-toned vase to complement vibrant spring branches, or opt for a dark-toned one to pair with the chic branches of winter.
By expressing the changing seasons through what you place inside—using the COOEE vase as a constant, enduring vessel—you can keep your display feeling fresh and new while keeping costs down.
For memorable details.
In hotels and commercial facilities, while guests experience the space as a whole, it is the refined details that leave a lasting impression.
Focal points created using COOEE Design guide the guest's gaze and silently convey the brand's philosophy.

In the upcoming fourth session, we will explain residential-style design approaches aimed at enhancing "well-being" in workspaces such as office lounges and meeting rooms.
